# Civil Rights & Ethical Use

At Synthesia, we are committed to ensuring that the use of AI-generated stock avatars is fair, transparent, and respectful. Our Civil Rights and Ethical Use Policy safeguards the dignity of the individuals these avatars represent, while protecting viewers from misleading or deceptive content.

At Synthesia, we kindly request you to ensure that the selection of stock avatars aligns with the nature of the product, service, or message you want to promote. Specifically:

- **Visible Identity Characteristics Consistency**: a stock avatar selection must not be manipulated in a way that misrepresents or distorts the real-world implications of the product or message.

- **Cultural Sensitivity**: restraint from using avatars to create content that misappropriates cultural symbols, traditions, or customs of ethnic groups.

- **Avoidance of Tokenism**: restraint from token representation of a group through a stock avatar simply to meet diversity expectations, without meaningful context or alignment with the content.

Individuals and organizations creating content with Synthesia technology and platform are responsible for the content they create, and therefore for disclosing the following:

- Any relationships or sponsorships related to the product or service being marketed if a stock avatar’s appearance could potentially mislead the audience about the source or target demographic of the content.

- Whether stock avatars are used to represent individuals if that usage could cause viewers to believe they are interacting with real people connected to the content.

| ## Prohibited Content **(Stock Avatars)** |
| ❌ **Non-Discrimination:** any attempt to use Stock Avatars to promote, perpetuate or reinforce any form of discrimination, whether explicit or implicit, and any behavior that violates anti-discrimination laws applicable to any relevant jurisdiction. <br>❌ **Deceptive Practices**: any attempt to use Stock Avatars to obscure the true origin of content, or to exploit the likeness of avatars in ways that would be considered deceptive or misleading regarding the real-world attributes they represent.

## **Policy Enforcement**

Synthesia will enforce this policy rigorously and take appropriate action for violations, which may include: rejection of content, account suspension or termination, as well as potential legal consequences for severe or repeated violations of this policy.

## **Civil Rights Impact Assessment**

Synthesia commits to conducting regular assessments on how stock avatars representing different visible identity characteristics are being used across the platform. The findings will inform future updates to this policy to better align with evolving civil rights and ethical standards.
